Rebel 27 [Action | Written]

[Litchi is taking a rare day off from the clinic. Only it's not even really a full day; she's just stepping out for a while for some fresh air and a chance to actually check in on her housemates. Watching diligently over Tsubaki is still her top priority, of course, but she needs just a short break from the clinic.

So it's a quick trip back to House 48 first to look in on Tao and Thirteen and possibly get a bath. And some tea. It's been far too long since she was home long enough to really have a chance to sit with her "family" for a while.

Then from there, she'll be heading off to the library to grab some new reading material. There are several things she's been meaning to do some research on, and it's about time she got around to it. She'll be at the library for a few hours before heading back, pausing only to make a note in her journal:]

Could I speak with you two for a moment when I get back? Something has been brought to my attention that I think both of you need to be aware of as well.

[A soft red starts to creep across her cheeks at that, but she still gives a quiet laugh. She did deserve that return. But then again, she's never been quite as good at taking the playful teasing as she is at dishing it out.

And yet she keeps going.] Now, now, David. I do have other patients, you know.

Hm. I guess it would be a little too much to ask for constant housecalls, wouldn't it?

[He says that as though it's quite a shame.]

[Quickly getting more flustered, Litchi finally ducks her head to try to hide just how red she's turning. The teasing edge is starting to fade from her voice. This is far more difficult when you keep blushing as well.]

You do have an unfair advantage just by living with me. Besides, I can't have my other patients getting jealous now, can I?

[...Well, he can't hide a smile at the blush. Seeing her like that... well. He'd be lying if he said it wasn't cute.]

I suppose not. Though I couldn't blame them if they did.

[She can hear that smile and it's not helping things at all. Almost shyly, she toys with the end of her ponytail.]

Well... To be fair, I suppose I could take some time off from work next week. It has been a while.

I think that'd do you some good, honestly. Wouldn't hurt to just kick back and relax before the holiday season kicks into gear.

To be honest, I've been thinking about taking some time off anyhow to try and make contact with another one of the Spirits. [Another idle twist of her hair.]

I'm not sure if that counts for relaxing, but... with everything that's been happening lately, I really think it's a necessary precaution.

...Maybe not relaxing, but I would agree that it's important. But it's what you make of it, I guess.

[He pauses for a moment to think, setting his guitar aside.]

...Would you mind terribly if I joined you? Nala's proven interesting and useful to learn. I wouldn't mind seeing what the other spirits can do.

Well... it might be nice just to get away for a few days, at least.

[Litchi smiles, subconsciously brightening up at the prospect of Thirteen coming along for the training.]

I'd love some company. Actually, I was thinking of trying to contact the wind spirit. I never quite realized how much I relied on my Ars until... well. You understand.

[Until they were gone. The thought briefly sobers Thirteen's mind, but at least this time, this... Filial Magic didn't seem to have the price that magic from her world did.

And honestly, after seeing first hand the power of most of the village, Thirteen figured it was going to take more than just his gun to protect him in the future.]

I do. But that sounds like a good idea. Do you know where we have to go to contact that spirit?

[Holding one hand to her chin thoughtfully, she leans back in her seat.]

From what I've heard, it's easiest to contact from the mountains. But I can't say I'm 100% certain on that; I was going to try checking the library later just to be sure.

[He nods, standing his guitar up beside the couch and resting a hand on the top of it.]

If that's true, I suppose I better go see what we can find for equipment to head up there. Bound to be cold this time of year, but we should be okay if we're prepared. Considering you have experience living on a mountain, I think we'll be fine if that's where we have to go.

It is bound to be a little cold, but you're right -- we'll be fine so long as we make sure to bring everything we'll need.

[She gives a sheepish laugh.] Kagutsuchi wasn't quite the best example of mountain-living, but I suppose I have learned a thing or two about getting by in higher altitudes.

[Slight, thoughtful frown.] ...At this time of the year, we'll certainly be needing quite a few blankets, I'm sure.

Yeah, probably. I'll see what I can find for a couple of thermal sleeping bags too. Those worked for some of the soldiers in Erusea when they had to brave cold climates. I was lucky, San Salvacion was a pretty temperate place to be stationed during the war.

I'll have to hunt down a good tent too. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

[Nod.] Let's see... A tent, thermal sleeping bags, blankets... We'll need plenty of water, although I doubt that will be much of an issue unless the streams freeze over completely. And then we'll need food, of course.

[This is a woman who has never been camping. Ever. She may be underestimating just how cold it's going to be out there. ~~Besides, kind of distracted. Camping trip with David.~~] You don't think this is too much, do you?

Not at all, though weight's always a concern for packing. We need the essentials like you said. Water's heavy and we always need a lot of it. Gotta pack as though there won't be a sufficient supply. The real catch is making sure we can carry and fit it all. But I don't think we'll have a problem as long as we're not up there for more than a couple of days.

Hopefully that will be all the time we'll need. The weather could turn to snow any day now, after all.

[...Okay, the more she's thinking about it, the more she's starting to wonder.] Are you sure you want to come along? I don't want to make you come out of your way...

[Can't have him actually getting sick. :C]

I volunteered, didn't I? I'll be fine. Besides... what you're looking to do is important.

[A slight pause as he shifts his weight forward a little bit.]

And well... it'd do wonders for my mind knowing you wouldn't be going alone.

[Pink rising into her cheeks, she gives him a surprised blink before smiling despite herself.]

Thank you. It... really does mean a lot to me.

[He smiles lightly back, not quite teasing, but definitely in good humor.]

You're thanking me for being selfish? That's kind of a new one.

[She tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear, trying not to turn too much redder at that smile of his. Miraculously, it seems to be working.]

Well... to be honest, I'm being a little selfish, too. It's nice to know you care enough to worry. [It really shouldn't make her half as happy as it does.]

[He leans back into the couch again, and glances over to her, pinged by her tucking her hair behind her ear.]

Well, then we can both just be selfish, right? It all works out.

[...And he wants to say it's hard not to care about her, but for now he bites it back. He thinks it's obvious enough anyway...]

[It's obvious enough. At least, obvious enough now that she's able to sense any unspoken sentiment behind his words. Litchi can't help the sunny smile that spreads across her face.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, guilt is stirring a bit, but she's not terribly focused on it for now.]

...Yes, I suppose that's fair.

So that's settled. If you can get the time off, we'll head up... early next week? Probably should try to be back in time for Thanksgiving.

[Small nod.] That sounds like a great plan to me. We'll be home in time to have a nice meal ready for Tao and Tsubaki.

[Because seriously, Tsubaki deserves a nice welcome-home meal. ;_;]
