So the battle is starting this weekend, isn't it? [Why is it half the people she knows are drafted?] ...Everyone, please, be careful.

[Litchi is cooking today. A lot. It's part stress relief, part Welcome Home Tao. She's got far too much pent up negative energy and feels the need to do something with it -- guilt trips built up from Dragobete, worry over everyone heading off to war, anger towards the Malnosso... it all has built up into a need to cook up an obscene amount of food. Not to mention Tao's arrival; with the Kaka girl around again, Litchi has no doubt that every bit of the food she makes will end up eaten.

But even with Tao, there's still far more than necessary. Anyone in or around Community Building 2 is free to come by and find out what's cookin'. There's a ridiculous amount of Chinese food here and it needs eating. ♥]

I know it's foolish to think everyone can get out of this completely unharmed, but... I do hope they'll be alright.

Maybe not. But we're still their guinea pigs for experiments. They ain't gonna want anything permanent happening to their livestock.

You certainly have a point. It wouldn't do them any good to allow any lasting damage.

But to draft such young people... they really are ruthless.

They're real bastards, yeah. They had plenty of willing volunteers. Kind of makes you wonder what that those niceties about recruiting us were even for.

With all they put us through, I hardly see any point in putting up a friendly front at all.

True enough. I think I liked them better as indifferent, distant observers.

Hm. I'd love to give them a piece of my mind, but I doubt it would do any of us any good.

Who knows, maybe you'll get your chance soon enough.

As for me, I volunteered to do the fighting. Better for there to be some people out there willing to fight.

Actually, I volunteered as well. I'd really prefer not to fight, but... I'd rather be there for those who are injured than sit on the sidelines.

I think we'll all feel better knowing there will be doctors available on the sidelines.

[Sheepish laugh.] You caught me. I told you about that student of mine that's always hungry, right? She just showed up here a few days ago.

There's plenty extra if you're hungry.

I'm not sure she would. [She's dumb as dirt, after all. Litchi loves her, but Tao is not very bright.]

If you can put up with her coming up with some strange nickname for you, I'm sure it'll be fine.

[She'll try to keep Tao from pouncing. Really. No promises, though.]

[Litchi is halfway through making a second round of steamed buns for Tao, but she still offers a smile.]

I'm easily distracted. [He glances over at the food. There certainly is a lot.] Must be a heavy eater, that one.

She really is. And all of the kit-- er, children in her village are more of the same.

[She looks around at all the food.] ...Although I suppose I went a little overboard.

[He catches that correction. But he doesn't call her out on it. Really now, he's a guy from SPACE. If your student is a twenty foot man eating blob, he's not going to bat an eye.]

Good food will get eaten one way or another. [He snatches one of the steamed buns.] No harm in making too much, right?

You're right. There will always be someone to help eat whatever's here. [She gives him a wry smile.]
