Rebel 34 [Action!]

[With all the experiments and insanity at the clinic finally dying down, and the weather finally warming up (and not pouring rain), it's time for a break. Litchi has been looking forward to this trip for months, and finally having her chance to get out of the house and have some time alone with David is a huge relief.

Even though she can see the rainclouds starting to build up on the horizon, this is still their chance to get out for a day or two. ~~And hopefully this time will not end in fiery sneezes.~~

What better destination for a romantic day off than the hot springs?]

[[ooc: Feel free to run into Dave and Litchi on their way to the hot springs! ~~Although they may lineface a bit.~~ Thread with Dave chronologically comes last.]]

[Light laugh.] So mysterious.

[She'll just steal a quick kiss here. And tease. Because that is what she does.]

I promise I won't try to paint your nails this time.

[It is, and the teasing makes him happy; it means she's actually relaxing and easing up.]

I'm going to hold you to that, just so you know.

Hmm. Of course. That time was something of a... special exception. [To word it politely. Incredibly politely.

Chuckling under her breath, she leans in against him again, just making herself comfortable.]

...I don't think you have much to worry about this time around.

[Well, it was just a ridiculous occasion in general. Everyone got a good laugh out of it, so he was fine with it.

When she settles in, he gives her a gentle squeeze, then softly rests his head against hers, her thick, black hair gently tickling his face.]

And neither do you. [And a chuckle.] Or else I'm not doing my job right.

[And what a job it is, fighting against Litchi's worrisome nature. But for the time being, she's perfectly content. What's more important is being right here, with this nice spring weather, with the man she loves. Alone time is so rare, it's best to enjoy it while she can.

So here is a hug, maybe a little tighter than usual, a silent "thank you" for the vacation.]

You certainly do your job well, David.

[It's a full time job, often times, but it's one he can deal with doing.

He notes the hug and gives her a subtle nuzzle in return.]

The least I could do. So... when would you like to go to the hot springs?

[The nuzzle draws a soft, contented hum from her.]

...I suppose we could go in a moment. [She's hesitant to walk away from this.]

Mmm. No rush. We have all night, after all.

We do, don't we? Although I suppose we shouldn't wait too long...

[But she's just so comfortable. :c]

[He's comfortable too, honestly. They don't get to cuddle very often; with two other people living in the house, it doesn't afford them much time to be alone, and usually they don't get this affectionate with each other when other people are around. Most of it remains more subtle and subdued otherwise.

Moments like this tend to be very special for both of them, so he's hesitant to end it too.]

Probably not, but there's no harm in enjoying this view for a little longer, right?

Mm. Certainly no harm.

[Soft sigh. Dave, why you gotta make her so happy?]

It's such a beautiful view.

[He could ask you the same question.]

Sometimes I forget how small the village actually is...

Hmm. It's funny... for all the space we had in Kagutsuchi, I never felt anywhere near as free as I do here.

[She shakes her head, laughing a bit at herself.]

...I know that sounds ridiculous, given why we're even here in the first place.

[He thinks for a moment.]

No, I understand. Here... we're free to enjoy things however we like. We're not bound by whatever held us at home.

...Even though we're stuck dealing with the Malnosso, we're free to determine what we want to do. ...And who we want to be.

[She nods, a small smile twitching onto her lips.]

Exactly. Experiments aside, we at least have the freedom here to leave the village like this. Even with the barrier, it's still more free.

It's... certainly nice to have the breathing room, isn't it?

[Well, he can understand where Litchi's coming from, but as an old war bird, the concept of breathing room for him scales a little differently.

But still, he knows what she means, and as far as being grounded is concerned...]

Yes, it is. And to be gifted with so much that's just... untouched.

You know, Linhua used to joke around that we wouldn't know what to do with clean air even if we had it... [Low chuckle.] She was almost right. I've never been anywhere so untouched by the seithr or the wars.

[Thoughtful pause. She's sure he knows about the "untouched by the wars" even better than she does. She reaches to find his hand to hold, winding her fingers through his once she does.] ...It all really is a gift, isn't it?

Yes, it is. In a way... it's a slice of paradise. Now it has almost everything you can imagine... mountains, beaches, lakes, forests. All very much natural looking and feeling. And we only have to share it with a couple hundred people.

It's still wonderful that we do have others to share it with, hm?

[Because opportunities like this don't just come along every day. Here, have a soft hand squeeze.]

[A squeeze he lightly returns.]

Yes... even though I'm glad we can get away for awhile, there's a lot of good people down there.

[He almost feels bad leaving Tsubaki and Tao behind, but...]

Well... getaways are nice, regardless. [She loves the girls, but any quiet time alone with Thirteen like this? This is far too precious to pass up any opportunity.

She sighs, and murmurs half to herself:] I just wish it could always be like this.

[That quiets him for a short moment. It's possible that either of them could be yanked away at any time. For him, it'd probably be the grave. For her, it might even be worse. Luceti's what they have. Pretty much the only thing. That's a thought that rarely leaves his mind when he thinks about things.]

...Maybe it can be.

[He doesn't know how Shifts work. But if ever given the option to return home... he'd refuse it without a second thought. Maybe someday they'll be given that option...]

[The same thought has been haunting her for months. Were either one of them to be sent home... Litchi doesn't even want to consider it, but the fear refuses to leave. If only there was some way to talk the Malnosso into letting them stay...]

...I'd certainly hope. I...

[I really don't want to leave. It probably goes without saying.]

[When she trails off, he pulls her closer and holds her. He knows you don't want to leave. He doesn't either. He silently shares that sentiment with her, giving her a soft squeeze.

Don't fear it for now, Litchi. Right now, we have what we need.]

[She hugs his arms a little closer against herself, comforted by the silent agreement. Of course he understands where she was going with that thought. They've been able to fill in the blanks for one another for so long, after all.

Everything they needed... it really was all here.]
