Rebel 33 [Voice]

[The past few days have been a little overwhelming. Between Hinamizawa Syndrome and Nu getting smashed and several hours of overtime at the clinic, Litchi is hitting the point where she's getting burned out. Rather than keep pushing herself, she's actually taking a day off. It's a rainy day, after all; what better time for a break?

She's halfway through one of the novels Thirteen gave her for Christmas when she decides she's reading a little too fast. Time to get some opinions.]

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good book? I'm afraid I'm running out of things to read and the weather today certainly makes staying in with a book sound like a good idea. Really, I'm open to any genre.

Professor Hastings? I know I promised to let you know how Nu is doing... She'll be alright with some rest. I've done the best I can with her, now it's only a matter of time.

Are you doing okay? I'm sorry for that scare yesterday...

I checked a few old favorites out of the library. I'd be happy to let you borrow them -- if you can, you know, promise that they'll be in good condition when they come back. They're kind of near and dear to me.

They're mysteries, written by an author from my home. I'd be happy to bring them by.

I really don't need anything, and no, it's no trouble at all. I wouldn't have offered otherwise. I'm Alexis, by the way; I'm not sure if we've ever met.

[Yesterday was tough for Robert too, but for different reasons and ones that haven't actually been posted in a log yet, but suffice to say that log will be fairly awkward. Still, he's very glad to hear Litchi is alive, well, and capable of speech.]

... I am glad to hear that Nu is alright. Was I correct about her having a punctured lung? I... have little in the way of medical experience, but that bloodied cough... [Robert shudders a little. It reminds him of what happened to Helios.]

Is... Nu really so closely associated with Yuber as to warrant my death if I try to assist her? [Robert's still obviously shaken from yesterday. So much happened in that brief span... It was really the first time in his entire life that he had felt genuinely in danger of dying.] I... can certainly understand why he would be upset, if they are close... A completely unwarranted attack like that is absolutely unthinkable.

[He exhales slowly; softly.] I am more or less alright at the moment. Thank you... for protecting me. But... but you really should not have done that. You could have been killed and... nobody should ever fight. [His voice is hesitant, weaker. His normal intense conviction for this has wavered, just the slightest bit, and that grain of self-doubt is enough to make him really wonder just what Luceti is doing to him.]

D-Did... did you get attacked, Doctor Faye-Ling, or... was he rational enough to leave you be?

... Healing spell? [Robert would've expected conventional medicine from a doctor, and he hadn't even thought to use magic... Hrm.] Ah, well, whatever works I suppose... At least my diagnosis was not too far off.

... and... [Robert's voice is full of genuine emotion. A lot of the worry and fear and self-loathing fades away from this.] ... I... am glad that you are alright... I was very worried about your safety.

And, I see... well, that would explain some things, but... perhaps they were already together before then? Just... At any rate, it was barbaric that Nu was attacked at all.

Ah... well, Terran medical equipment would likely have been able to mend the damage in a few minutes... [He's not bragging, just stating a fact that he hadn't really considered.] Luceti's technology is not quite as efficient, is it? ...

... Is the medical ability of the... magical spirits [- geez, that is still weird to say -] sufficient for this sort of thing? Perhaps I ought to consider attempting to learn it. [If he can even do so at all.]

And... I suppose that means you can fight too, then... [Robert's voice has traces of sadness in it. He is quickly beginning to realize that other worlds are mostly fighting worlds, and that many of his friends - and his own partner - are also capable of fighting. As much as the majority of his mind still reviles the prospect, he is also - more slowly - beginning to realize that those two sections - the fighting section and the kind, gentle section - are capable of existing in tandem.

All he sees when he's met Litchi were those kind, gentle, intelligent parts of her... And those parts, he hopes, outweigh whatever fighting parts she has.]

Do you know Nu well yourself, then? I had... only spoken to her once before, which is how I know her name. I nearly did not recognize her with all of that armour on... But it is quite lucky she had it, otherwise her assailant might have done much more grevious damage to her. [He shakes his head, looking sick.] The attacker should be brought to whatever justice exists in Luceti. There is no excuse for attacking somebody like that.

[And Thirteen is in the living room shortly after she makes the inquiry on the journal. He heard about what happened to Nu. And admittedly, he's not happy about it for a number of reasons. And the rainy weather isn't helping matters. So after standing by the window and looking out for a moment, he'll go take a seat next to Litchi.]

Glad you finally managed to get a day off, you've been running yourself pretty hard lately.

[Not that he blames her. He's used to her doing this, and the stuff that came up was very important to deal with. And he knows that.]

[He smiles a bit at the squeeze, but then gently slides his arm around her.]

Mmm, this rain's getting old. But, I have to agree that it's good to be with you. You're so busy at the clinic sometimes that it's a wonder you don't collapse into bed when you get home. [He gently squeezes her for a moment.] You're one tough woman, you know that?

[And he likes it.]

[He laughs a bit at the poke.]

To be fair, she sleeps most of the day.

I have an idea. Would you like to trade books for a week? We could read something new, that we normally might have thought to choose.

We can each choose a number of books. Five, maybe.

A mixture is fine. After all, I want to broaden my reading.

It's an easy read, but it could be time consuming. The author intended for the reader to play along and figure out the culprit.
