Rebel 22 [Voice/Action] Forward-dated to late evening

[It's been a very long day. Litchi has been up since before dawn, tending to patients, straightening up the clinic, helping lost little boys, and overall working herself half to death. Only she's looking a ton more energetic than usual, and even as she's leaving the clinic for the night, she's still upbeat and smiling and cheerful.

No, she hasn't gotten into the drugs. Just before heading out to walk home, she'll open up her journal for a quick message.]

Well, it's certainly about time things returned to normal, don't you think? I've had more than enough excitement for quite some time.

Mr. Goroh, David, Miss Yayoi... make sure you're all home within an hour or so, okay? Just because Tao isn't home to eat all your food right now doesn't mean you can be late for dinner. I should be home soon; it won't take long to get back from the grocery store.

[Goroh, ever timely, is the first to arrive for dinner, sitting at the table and waiting for everyone else to arrive. He's younger and without his hat and sunglasses. What is this!?]

[Well, Thirteen won't be far behind Goroh, considering he helped prepare dinner. But then again, he'll do a double-take at Goroh... not wearing sunglasses. Or hat. What. Either way, he'll take a seat across from him.]

It's difficult to say. She seemed uneasy around me and distracted. It wasn't like her at all.

She seemed surprised when I started sharing some of the funny stories I had with Yellow Squadron too. It's weird, I've told a lot of them in the past...

[He shakes his head.] You've never mentioned any of these things to me, only about how the war was lost.

[Now Thirteen looks at Goroh incredulously. Disbelief is heavy in his tone.]

...Lost? What?! Erusea won the Usean Continental War! I flew combat air patrol for the armistice negotiations!

[His tone remains level.]

[He settles back in his chair.]

This doesn't make any sense at all. That's like if you said you were never an F-ZERO pilot. Winning the war was a point of pride for me, just like how racing was for you.

[Now his tone changes, to one with an edge.]

You think I get in one of those machines to race alongside common thugs and enemies of the Federation? If I had my way, the competition would've been discontinued altogether. Unfortunately my position doesn't give me that kind of influence.

[A confused, frustrated edge gets into his voice too, but not a particularly aggressive one.]

You're telling me you never raced in F-ZERO.

Goroh, you showed me the Fire Stingray during the draft. You showed me how it worked and I saw you drive it in combat. You were very clear that the machine was the one you raced in back on your world. You were proud of that machine, like how any pilot would be.

[He sighs, and shakes his head.]

...I don't get what else it could've been. What do you remember it as?

What you call the Fire Stingray is actually the F1-RE Sting-Interceptor, a Federation military vehicle often used to intercept planet-side pirates who often use the cover of mountainous terrain and enclosed canyons to avoid being targeted by aircraft. Before my promotion to Head Detective, I operated such a vehicle in pursuit of a man known as Captain Falcon.
