not_meatbuns | Rebel 2 [Action/Voice]

[Litchi is starting off her day with total and utter confusion. Instead of waking up in the comfortable, familiar dark of the apartment she shares with Thirteen, the sun is already coming up and illuminating a strange room instead. It's not their home back on Strangereal, so she can rule out the Malnosso sending them back - not to mention she wouldn't remember any Malnosso if that were the case. A slight panic starts to set in, not just at the unfamiliar surroundings, but also at the fact that - dun dun dunnnn - she's late for a shift at the clinic.

Although the unfamiliar room has her attention more, and that's the main reason why she's nudging her husband awake. David's always been the more level-headed between them. Maybe he can figure out where they are and what they're doing here.

Later on in the day, her bearings regained and feeling slightly miffed, Litchi will address the journals.]

[Voice]

My goodness. Another day completely blanked out. I really do hope the Malnosso stop interrupting our memories like this. Once is too many, but this many times...

[Well, she's getting off-track. She clears her throat, only slightly sheepish.]

Is everyone alright? Any injuries? Slight confusion seems to be a trend today, so I suppose we can ignore that as a symptom.

If anyone needs any help at all, please let me know. Even if you just need a hand re-orienting yourself.

No? We thought it would be better to find a place of our own since Kazuma had found his new roommates, remember?

It was all of us. David and I thought it would be less awkward than trying to settle in with strangers and so did you.

My jokes are usually funnier. I'd say the Mallies did a number on one of us.

[He's thinking Litchi, of course.]

[And she's thinking it's him. Because he should know better.]

Well, I don't think it was me. David was just as confused as I was.

Yet you're the ones who woke up in the wrong place. Me? Same bed I fell asleep in.

Maybe you have a point... but that seems to be all they did, was move us around.

Or make you think you moved around.

Uesugi, David and I weren't the only ones moved around. It seems almost like that time they had us teleporting around the village at random.

So it's a good thing you weren't showering then, hm?

[Sly grin.] Well, good for me, at least. I'll take my luck where I can find it.

Shame. I'd pay well to see that.

Oh, Uesugi, you know your money isn't any good here.

[She's laughing now as she adds:] Besides, I'm a married woman.

... what? Since when? [She mentioned nothing like that after coming back to Luceti.]

[Now she's giving the journal a funny look.]

...Since we were sent home. We were married a few months before the Malnosso brought us back the second time.

We did tell you about that, didn't we? [She could have sworn she and David both had told him. In fact, she remembers it.]

Seems that little detail slipped your mind, Doc. Can't imagine why.

[He's a tad offended, in fact. And put out. He thought he had a good thing going with Litchi.]

But I remember telling you! I can't imagine why I wouldn't have.

Must've imagined it. Shame, too. Guess all that extra time Dave had with you means I lost my shot at you.

[Normally this wouldn't be an issue. He had his memories of Lisa back, so the idea of being with Litchi? It was almost embarrassing.

This Goroh, however, has never been married. He had a girl in Wutai, but she died in the war. He'd been a loner ever since.]

[What is he talking about? Sure, she's flirted with him here and there, but she's never been anything but truthful about how she felt about Thirteen. This hasn't ever been an issue before, has it...?

This is either another experiment or an elaborate prank, and she's not sure which.]

I'm sorry if I ever misled you, but... I've known David was the only one for me almost ever since he was brought into my intensive-care unit back home. The extra time here didn't make much difference.

[He wasn't that put out, honestly. He was a grown man. Which is why had no problem voicing his admittedly minor disappointment in losing out on her. But that story did not add up.]

You and Dave aren't from the same world. I know you sure as hell wished you were, though.

Of course we're from the same world! He was a major in the Erusean Air Force. I'm a lieutenant colonel in the ISAF medical corps. He was a patient of mine for months. I don't think I'd just dream up all those months of treatment.

And I suppose the next thing you'll tell me is that you've never heard of F-Zero racing.

No, you're a doctor back in Kagutsuchi. Dubious past. Habit of messing with things you have no business sticking your nose in. The same world as Tsubaki and Noel. Or do you not remember them either? [A snort.] As for this F-Zero racing? Never heard of it. Never had any time for that kind of thing.

Of course I remember them, but I met them here. And you--

[Wait, wait. This has happened before. She just has to calm down and take a step back...]

You know, I think the Malnosso may be repeating an experiment here. This isn't the first time we've all had different memories of one another.

[Ugh. He remembers that too well.]

The good news is, my heart's not all a-flutter for Tsubaki this time.
